Mining can result in contamination of soil, groundwater, and surface water by toxic chemicals, as well as erosion, sinkholes, biodiversity loss, and carbon dioxide emissions. Moreover, there is no vegetative cover at these sites because of undesirable and challenging soil conditions. Some locations in Turkey have been severely impacted by mining operations, as have many other places across the world. The study used mine-waste data collected from technical reports and literature to investigate alkalinity, which is an indicator of groundwater quality. Recent years have seen an upsurge in scientific research on modeling environmental issues, thanks to the advancement of computer technology. As a result, the use of machine learning to control and prevent the pollution caused by solid wastes has accelerated. Machine learning has potential for resolving environmental problems if technology is applied following the principles of the Circular Economy.

Hasan Volkan Oral, Hasan Saygın (2024). Use of Machine Learning Techniques in Mining Waste Treatment: Example and Applications in Turkey.
